New Shanghai, Ashfield

The very popular New Shanghai @ Ashfield is clean and modern compared to some of the other eateries.

A  lot of people really rate New Shanghai for their dumplings in Ashfield. It's clean, reliable and delicious. I'm surprised that their zomato rating is only 3.2/5.0. I am mindful that when it gets busy, you will be waiting a while and customer service tends to drop but generally the food is amazing. It stands out from the rest of the Asian eateries who have tired furniture and what seems to be appear as less cleanliness.

A good staple dish to order is the Shanghai Noodle, which is Stir Fried with shredded pork and vegetable at $9.50, above. It's not as generous as Sea Bay in Eastwood but the noodles are a bit thicker which I like compared to Taste of Shanghai.  There's something really addictive about hand made stir fried noodles. Like most Asian restaurants, don't expect much meat with the noodle dishes,

I also wanted to try something different so I opted for the Shepherd's purse. These were wild vegetable and pork wontons tossed with peanut butter, red chili oil and spices (10 pieces for $9.80, above) topped with cucumber. It was different like a satay dumpling plate but I think I prefer the traditional dumplings in chili oil. I think it's worthwhile trying though.

Naturally, I had to order the Xiao Long Bao (8 pieces, $7.80, below). Soup bursting dumplings the warm your insides accompanied with a special mix of vinegar, soy and chili. Overall, another great experience at New Shanghai who is facing fierce competition in Eastwood and chains such as Taste of Shanghai and Din Tai Fung. Sydney can never have enough dumpling eateries.
