Avenue Rd Cafe, Mosman

Springtime in Sydney is the perfect excuse to try out a new suburb to explore, so I venture out to Avenue Rd café in Mosman to try their new classic menu with an Asian twist.

Avenue Rd feels like the perfect classic weekend chillout café, with the choice of elegant fittings indoors with timeless lantern lights and relaxing acoustic tunes inside, or outside with alfresco seats basked in sunshine galore.

After much ado we decide to opt to sit indoors and get started with lunch. My other half Dazza is eager to check out the menu.

I start with the Pan-seared Barramundi ($20, above), it is perfectly cooked with crunchy skin and the salsa and crispy potato crisps make it a refreshing lunch that isn’t too heavy.

The BBQ Duck Crepes ($18, above) are a house favourite and irresistible for Dazz being his favourite meat. The crepes are jam packed with tasty shredded duck meat, coriander, cream fraiche and the sweetness of the plump cherries complement the duck. I Recommend. Dazz recommends. It's two recommends from us.

The Masala Prawn Paddadams ($16, above) are a colourful infusion of India meets Mexico, with extra-large prawns with masala spices, fresh salsa, corn, sweet raisons, and feather-light pappadams. We love the fresh flavours and textures, though would have preferred the pappadams served on the side to retain their crunch, as well as prawns plain with a spicy dipping sauce.

Being such a warm spring day, the Refresher juice really hit the spot with sweet watermelon and apple flavours, whereas the Mint Sensation is moreso for those whom love the tang of pineapple, lime and mint.

For dessert they had the classics on display at the counter so we try the Caramel Slice ($5) with a nice coconut base, along with a Gluten-free raspberry and passionfruit friand ($4) which was moist with bold tropical flavours.

Both went down extremely well with the Double Roasters coffee. Apart from the quality coffee we adored their attention to detail on our Cappuccino and their fancy classic spoons.

Summary: Overall, I think Avenue Rd Cafe is a classic chillout café and a fresh menu with a subtle Asian twist.
