Taste Food Tours - Part 3

Taste Food Tours provides an insight into an exotic world in Sydney! This is part three of my Taste Food Tour "Global Explorer Tour". The final leg of the tour delves into a touch of Asia and a touch of sugar heaven.

Make sure you catch up on Part 1 and Part 2 of the tour.
Another short stroll and the 15 people tour group arrives at the Lao Thai Luammit restaurant. This restaurant is legit and authentic cuisine.

As my background is Vietnamese, Laos and Thailand are neighbouring countries, there are commonalities with vibrant, fragrant fresh herbs and spicy and sweet flavour combinations. I notice the decorations that are protected by a plastic covering on the tables.

Our group shares a series of dishes including the Lao Sausage which has a strong ginger taste. This dish is similar to the Vietnamese Nem Nuong (grilled pork sausages).

For a real spicy hit, I tried some of the papaya salad with tomato and crab in a fish sauce. There's a very dominant crab/seafood flavour to the dish, followed by a lingering chilli hit. For something more familiar for the group, there were also the chicken wings that we shared.

Next up, we shared two really fragrant salads full of herbs. The first is the chicken mince laarb salad and the second was the pork rice with chilli. It's a nice lighter lunch.

Our last stop of the Global Explorer Tour of the Taste Food Tours is the very popular La Torre Cake Shop. This tiny little shop has many delightful cakes, pastries and sweets to really tempt you.

It is here that I sample a quince paste pastry and a caramel encased pastry. What a delightful place. What a sweet and happy ending.

Many on the tour bought some additional goodies to go afterwards.

Summary: If you are looking for an insight into the diverse cultures of Sydney - why not check out a Taste Food Tour. It's a great gift idea for those who like getting out of their comfort zone.

Weekend Food Escapes participated in the Taste Food Tour as guests. All words, opinions and photos are my own.
