Eat House Diner, Redfern

Matt and I walk hand in hand on this particular Saturday excited from the day's events and we are looking forward to a nice dinner at Eat House Diner in Redfern. It's a short walk from Redfern station.
The best way to describe Eat House Diner is a cultural melting pot. There's random pieces of art work that resemble Asian influences, South American but also the decore resembles an American diner.

A few people start streaming in at around 6pm. I look at the menu and it's a tapas style menu with share plates. The staff generally suggest 3-4 plates for two people. As I read the menu I notice the melting pot of Asian flavours, Middle Eastern, Modern Australian as well as American influences.

But first a drink. Matt orders a Murray's Whale Ale ($9) while I go for a lychee mojito ($17). Cheers! What a relaxing way to start the meal.

The first dish I order is the very popular Kataifi Prawns ($18) with green papaya salad, coriander, red chilli, eshallot and fish sauce. This dish has Asian flavours especially with the refreshing papaya salad mixed in with chilli and the tangy fish sauce. The prawns are crunchy and really tasty to eat. I eat all the prawns as Matt is allergic to shell fish. What a nice way to start off the meal. I'd recommend ordering this dish.

There's also the Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder ($24). The lamb is served up on a bed of spiced and smashed lentils with coriander yoghurt and mint.  The lentils and the yoghurt has a slightly middle Eastern fusion vibe. The lamb is well cooked, maybe slightly over cooked but still enjoyable to eat. Lamb and mint yoghurt are a natural combination.

Next up is a vegetarian dish, the Roasted Eggplant ($18). Matt really enjoys this dish as it has lots of textures including chickpeas, tomato, preserved lemon cream, hazelnut, sesame dukkah and parsley. The soft eggplant is a great textural contrast to the crunchy hazelnuts and the dukkah. The flavours remind me of middle eastern flavours with the chickpeas and dukkah.

Next up is Matt's favourite dish which are the American styled Cauliflower and Ricotta Fritters ($16) with blue cheese sauce. When you first see this dish, you could easily mistaken them for meat balls or possibly arancini. It's not until you bite into the soft fritter that you can taste the mostly cheesey texture with cauliflower. The blue cheese sauce adds for more cheese. These are absolutely delicious. I'd recommend ordering this dish.

Make sure you leave enough room for dessert. This is one you could share but you may not want to. In true American Diner style, there's a Banana Split ($14). This has banana, banana ice cream, chocolate ganache, peanut crumble, nuts and dulce de leche (creamy caramel sauce). This has delicious flavours.

Summary: Eat House Diner is an adorable venue with eccentric decore. It's a nice casual venue for dinner. Come here if you are looking for a mix of flavours and fusion of cultural flavours. My favourite dish is the Kataifi Prawns and Matt's favourite were those cauliflower and ricotta fritters.
